today is my 30th birthday. i’m equal parts terrified & exhilarated to experience my 30s. here are 30 things i’ve learned in 30 years. maybe you’ll relate to some of them.
and that's okay.
music is part of my soul. and bloodstream.
I hate people skipping a song before it's finished.
Seriously, don't do it.
My weight will always fluctuate, and I'll probably never be a model or a size 6.
But that's no need to hate how I look or restrict what I eat.
Always choose Paris over the boy. Unless it's the boy who invites you to Paris. Then say yes.
It wasn't Paris for me, but I chose to say yes and it worked out pretty well for me.
Trust yourself and your instincts.
Stick to your guns about how you feel, even if it goes against the majority.
Don't be afraid to take chances.
Life is short, but also really long.
I can cook!
Until 2020, I wasn't so sure...
Focusing on myself before anyone else is not only okay, it's necessary,
Self-care is not selfish.
I'll never be cool.
But I don't care anymore.
i am, and always will be, quiet.
but when i have something to say, it's worth listening to.
My inner child requires a lot of love.
And I need to remember to give her that.
I am a writer, whether anyone reads or listens to my work or if I become successful.
I'll always write poems, stories, songs, regardless.
My family gave me the best upbringing and I wouldn't change it at all. My mum taught me freedom & fun. My dad gave me his passion for travelling and how to manage money. My brother and I grew up as best friends. I watched my littlest brother grow up and I hope he never thinks of me as old!
I love wine.
There are worse vices to have.
Sometimes, the people you thought would be in your life forever, aren't anymore. Losing people is hard.
But losing yourself is harder.
My perfect evening involves takeaway food, my favourite music played VERY loud, and wine.
Comfy clothes forever.
I think deeply, love hard, and damage easily.
It's taken me a long time to realise these are strengths, not flaws.
Exercise should be for enjoyment and nothing else.
Never for torture or punishment because of what you ate or didn't eat.
I'm proud of who I am as a daughter, sister, girlfriend, friend and human.
I will always be a both a masterpiece and a work in progress.
quoting movies is something i'll always do.
I am a proud (crazy) cat lady.
I will never be ashamed of this.
Red suits me.
Yellow does not.
Always wash your face.
Especially after wearing makeup.
It's okay for me to say no to what doesn't serve me.
And yes to what does.
Counselling is amazing.
It literally saved my life on so many levels and in so many ways.
I don't have many friends, but the ones I do have are amazing.
It takes a lot for me to open up.
But when I do, you're part of my inner circle.
My life so far is living proof.
I know I am right where I am supposed to be in life.
Regardless of where others may be in comparison. The universe has it all figured out for me.
Happy Birthday to me. Here’s to my dirty thirties, and whatever happens!
